Not much stamping has been done here over the past couple of weeks I've been enjoying my grandson and the wonderful weather. It has been very warm and the best place to be is in the pool and that is exactly where I have been. I needed a birthday card for a co-worker and since it has been so hot here lately I decided to "cool" things off with some popsicles! I stamped the popsicle images on water color paper using black staz-on ink and colored them using various SU markers and a blender pen. Sort of a modified/quick version of water coloring. There is a great tutorial on water coloring with blender pens on the Stamping 411 blog here. The stamped image was layered on pink passion card stock that had a double layered scalloped edge. The sentiment was stamped on whisper white card stock and punched out using the jewelry tag punch. I punched out 2 more tags using the jewelry tag punch and pink passion card stock and adhered the sentiment to them which gave me a border in the pink passion. I attached the sentiment to the scalloped edge using bakers twine and then adhered the entire layer to a piece of whisper white card stock that was embossed using the square lattice embossing folder. Of course, it wasn't complete without some glitter to make it sparkle.

This card is a CASE from one made by Michelle Zindorf that I saw on Splitcoaststampers here. Her cards are amazing and I love that she provides tutorials on her blog. I did change a few things and of course my brayering technique needs work but all in all I like how the card turned out.

For this card I combined two challenges from Splitcoaststampers, the color challenge (CC330) and the sketch challenge (SC340). The color challenge was to use melon mambo, tangerine tango and rich razzleberry and I decided that flowers would probably be the easiest way to combine these colors. I stamped the flower image onto the various colors of card stock using white craft ink, embossed them with white embossing powder, cut them out using my paper snips and attached a half pearl to the center of each flower. The sentiment was stamped onto whisper white card stock using rich razzleberry ink and then punched out with the decorative label punch. For the border on the sentiment, I used the decorative label punch and rich razzleberry card stock and then cut the piece in half horizontally and mounted the halves to the top and bottom of the sentiment. The center panel was created using a piece of whisper white card stock adhered to melon mambo card stock that had the left edge punched using the scallop edge border punch. It still seemed to need something else so using rich razzleberry card stock and an EK Success flower chain punch I punched a border and attached it under the scalloped edge. The flowers and sentiment were adhered to the center panel using dimensionals. For the button I attached a rhinestone brad through the holes and using mini glue dots attached it to the card front.

This is the card I sent to my sister for her birthday (which is today). My starting point was the "Ways to Use It" challenge (WT330) on Splitcoaststampers. The challenge was to use a doily (stamps, punches, die cuts, etc) to make a card. Doilies remind me of my grandmother and mother. Both of them crocheted doilies and used them throughout their homes on tables, nightstands, dressers, and even on the arms and backs of chairs and sofas. Combining the doily with the image of the flowers in a jar brought back memories of my mother putting lilacs in jars and placing them throughout the home and having the whole house smell of lilacs. The flower image was stamped on a 2 1/2" circle of whisper white card stock and colored using markers and a blender pen. I distressed the circle to give it an aged look and mounted the stamped image to a 3" circle of cherry cobbler card stock that also had the edges distressed. To complete the card I adhered a 4 3/4" square piece of Bella Rose DSP to a 5" square piece of cherry cobbler card stock. The doily was centered and attached using tombow multi-purpose adhesive and then the stamped image was attached using dimensionals. The ribbon bow was attached and then the entire piece was mounted to a 5 1/4" square base of whisper white card stock. The sentiment was stamped in cherry cobbler ink, punched with the jewelry tag punch and then adhered under the bow with tombow multi-purpose adhesive.

I've made more sympathy cards so far this year than I care to count. The technique that I used for this card came from something I saw on Nicole Heady's blog here. It's called "Polaroid 2-Step Masking" and she has a how-to video for this technique. The colors I used came from the color challenge on Splitcoaststampers (CC329). The challenge was to use soft suede, crumb cake and melon mambo and since I wanted to keep the card on the masculine side I only used melon mambo for the bird image and kept the rest of the card very neutral.
