Scary Halloween Tree

Happy Halloween!  I don't make many Halloween cards but I really liked this paper by DCWV called Bewitched.  There are several images that don't need much added to create a card and this tree was one of them.  I created the spider web from black card stock and an EK Success Spider Web Border Punch and then spritzed the border with frost white shimmer mist.  The spider was stamped with versa mark ink, embossed with black embossing powder, cut out and adhered to the card front using a dimensional.

Monster Mansion

HYCCT Challenge Dated October 11th - The Monster Mash

The challenge was to create a card inspired by the song "The Monster Mash"!  The inspiration could come from the lyrics, images or colors from the video that was posted but to keep it fun and not scary.  Obviously a Halloween card came to mind and since the "monsters" have to live somewhere I decided this image was their "Monster Mansion".

Petal Punch Treat Holders

I have seen these treat holders everywhere and I'm not sure where the idea originated from but I had to try to make them. I'm sure mine are similar to some that are already out there but these are my versions. Everything I used from paper to punches is from Stampin' Up except for the Frankenstein hair which was created using the Martha Stewart icicle border punch.

Friendly Monsters

This card was inspired by the card I saw here. I changed some things from the original idea but to me the point of CASing something is to make it your own. My little monsters all have noses and none of them have fangs. With the exception of the ribbon and the googlie eyes, everything is from Stampin' Up. This was very easy to create and took hardly any time at all to put together. This will be for my grandson for Halloween. He is 2 1/2 and I didn't want to give him something that was too scary and these monsters seem friendly.

Googlie Eyed Spider

I'm trying to get my Halloween cards completed and this one will be sent to someone very special. I was inspired by a card I saw on someones blog but can't remember where I saw it. I loved how they had incorporated several of the images from this stamp set onto their card. There are several extra little touches on this card that gives it a "WOW" factor. The witch hat was stamped in black onto white card stock, cut out and the stars were colored in with a Spica orange glitter pen. The tag was stamped in black pigment ink, embossed with clear embossing powder and the ribbon was attached with a staple. The spider was stamped in black and glitter was adhered using a glue pen and the googlie eyes were attached with crystal effects. The tag, witch hat and panel were attached to the card base using dimensionals. I think this has to be one of my favorite Halloween cards. I hope you like it too!

Witching You...

This image is from one of the new sets called "Greeting Card Kids" in the Stampin' Up catalog this year. I have been wanting to try water coloring and thought this would be a good set to use. There are 4 different images in this set so it spans several seasons. The image was stamped using Black Stazon ink onto watercolor paper. I think my image has too much color added to it to actually be considered water coloring, but I still like how it turned out. I need to practice my water coloring technique but that just gives me an excuse to create more cards.

 

To achieve the shimmery look on the background, the black card stock was first embossed with the spider web embossing folder then spritzed with a mixture of about 1/8 teaspoon of silver Pearl Ex powder mixed with about 2 ounces of liquid hairspray. I purchased the hairspray and the spray bottles at the dollar store. I prefer to use the liquid hairspray rather than rubbing alcohol because once it drys the Pearl Ex doesn't rub off. The mixture lasts a long time you just have to shake it up really well before each use. You can make any card stock shimmer with this mixture and try using different colors of powder for various effects. This is a great look on Christmas cards!

Happy Halloween

This is my second post for today. These are the treat boxes that I gave to my co-workers this year for Halloween. I made 24 of these coffins from the pattern that Jan Tinklenberg created. You can find the pattern on her blog here. She has a list of templates and this one is called "coffin treat box". I really liked the fact that you only use one sheet of card stock to create these boxes. These were all printed out onto Basic Gray card stock and then stamped in Going Gray ink using the Antique Cracking background stamp. The top was stamped with Versa Mark ink and embossed with black embossing powder with the images from the stamp set From the Crypt. Once I had the box together I sponged all the edges with black ink but I thought the boxes looked a little bare so I punched 3/4" wide strips from Black and Bravo Burgundy card stock using the Martha Stewart punch called Drippy Goo and taped them around the top edges (the Bravo Burgundy was sponged with black ink before applying to the coffins). I covered the boxes with some spider web material and then added the plastic spiders with glue and it sort of makes a little handle to open the coffin with. Everyone loved them.

I found the perfect candy to fill the boxes with at "Dollar Tree". The Dollar Tree had Gummy Skeletons, Bags of Bones and Eyeballs. I also put an extra plastic spider in there and a Hershey's chocolate bar.

From the Crypt

I really like the images in the stamp set "From the Crypt". I'm not much of a Halloween person but for some reason I was drawn to this stamp set. I still have a few cards to make for family members that live out of state and I was inspired by the post on Beate's blog for this card. I had to emboss the image 3 times before I had one that I was satisfied with. I think the black pigment ink pad I was using needs to be replaced. The skull is stamped on a 2 1/2" x 2 3/4" piece of Certainly Celery DSP using Versa Mark ink and then embossed with black embossing powder. The Halloween Night DSP (retired) contained paper with a spider web on it but I wanted it to stand out more so I enhanced the web with a white Signo gel pen. I really like how this card turned out.

Witch Hats

This is my submission for the card sketch challenge on splitcoast yesterday. I don't usually make many Halloween cards but I still need a few more to send to some family members. This will probably go to my in-laws. I've been trying to use up some of the older background papers from Stampin' Up that for some reason I seem to hoard. I realize that it doesn't do any good just sitting in my cabinet so I'm working diligently to use more background paper in my cards.

Halloween and Drippy Goo

This card is one of the cards I chose not to do for the upline swap. There were two elements that kept it from being simple (masking and water coloring). Since I needed to make 10 cards I decided that this would be more time consuming than I wanted. I like how the card turned out but to make 10 of them was more work than I wanted to tackle. The background paper is not from SU so I wasn't sure if I could get away with using it for a swap and the only Halloween SU background paper I have has been discontinued. I also used a punch from Martha Stewart called "Drippy Goo" and the effect it gives is great. Oh well, it will make a great card to send to a friend.

Halloween Treat Boxes

I know that I haven't been very good at keeping up with blog posts but between work and spending lots of time with my grandson it doesn't leave much time for stamping. I really miss it and hope to be doing more stamping over the next couple of months. I created these cute little boxes to give to my nephews for Halloween. Of course they get lots of candy so I try to give them a small little gift and only a little candy. I think these turned out cute but they aren't something that I would make if I had to make a lot of them.
