Layered Snowflakes

 

I don't know where the time goes, but I'm finally getting back to posting some cards.  This was the card I made for the May 2013 Christmas card challenge.  Actually, I made 8 cards but they all look basically the same.  It was a sketch challenge and this is what I came up with.  I did modify the sketch slightly by having the background layer larger than what the sketch showed.  I think I ended up using most of the large felt flurries that I had left from a couple of years ago.

Snow Much Fun

 

I hope you aren't getting tired of Christmas cards yet.  I have one more post after this one and then I'll get back to posting non-Christmas cards.  This card is also one I made for the March Christmas card challenge.  I purchased this set when Stampin' Up offered a discount on various stamp sets last fall and I never got around to using it until now.  My color inspiration came from the fact that Stampin' Up is retiring the color taken with teal and this DSP worked out perfectly with my choice of colors.

Nordic Mittens

Here is another card I made for the March Christmas card challenge using the stamp set called "Make a Mitten".  This card is a CASE from a card I saw on Splitcoaststampers here.  I changed the designer paper so that all of the elements I used were Stampin' Up but just about everything else is copied from that card.  It is hard to see but the mittens were actually stamped in versa mark ink on the designer paper, embossed with clear embossing powder and then punch out using the mitten builder punch.  I made this as a Christmas card but it would also be a great birthday card for someone with a winter birthday.

Frosty Friends

In my previous post I mentioned that I signed-up for the Christmas card challenge and this is my second card using non-traditional colors.  The snowmen were stamped onto crumb cake card stock and colored using a blender pen and craft white ink.  I did use red and green to color the various elements on the snowmen but used really rust, chocolate chip and crumb cake card stock for my "non-traditional" colors.

Snowy Forest

HYCCT Challenge Dated October 31st - A Walk in the Woods

This challenge was to be inspired by the outdoors.  My inspiration comes from my own backyard.  Where I live there are lots of trees and animals and in the winter when things are covered in snow it is so peaceful looking.  I stamped the evergreen trees on glossy white card stock and used sponge daubers to fill in around the trees and to add the moon and sky.  The snow was created using craft white ink and white embossing powder.  I added the printed polka dot acetate sheet from the "Clearly Thanks" printed window sheets over the top and cut an oval in another layer of white card stock to create my window.

Snowflakes are Falling

In keeping with my New Year's resolution I actually made some Christmas cards. I used the stamp set "Winter is Calling" for these cards. The stamp set was only available in the 2003 Winter Mini Catalog and fortunately my sister owns the set so I was able to borrow it to create these cards. I made 4 of the same card I just changed the colors.

Snowflakes and Lace

It has snowed here the last couple of days and everything looks so clean and white just like this card. I had purchased a package of the lace paper doilies from Michaels intending to use them on a Christmas card for my daughter (she wanted a "shabby chic" card). Naturally I didn't end up using the lace doily on her card (and I mailed the card before taking a picture). Anyway, I was cleaning up my work table and the package of the paper doilies were sitting there and I decided to see what I could come up with and this card is the result. I'm not sure what I'll do with it at this point but I think it would be nice card for a winter wedding or anniversary. Who knows maybe I'll save it and use for a Christmas card.

Navy Snowflake Trio

I can't seem to get out of the wintery cards. I need to put the northern frost die away and get on away from the snowflakes. I love the simplicity of this card and I think it could be used for any occasion and it is very neutral so it could be given to a man or a woman.

Wintery Scene

 

I had these snowflakes sitting on my work table and decided to put them to use. I didn't want it to necessarily be a Christmas card so I kept it simple. I think this card could be used for a winter wedding, birthday or even a sympathy card.

Winter Fun

I've been going through my stamp supplies and trying to use some of the things I have and came across these "Old Saint Nick" rub-ons. When I saw all of the snowflake images and the sentiment these cards came together very quickly. The white snowflakes were matched with the brilliant blue card stock and the chocolate chip snowflakes were matched with very vanilla card stock. I also spritzed the very vanilla card with frost white shimmer mist and it just takes the card to the next level. There were no stamps or ink used to create these cards.

Merry Wishes

Today I have two versions of the same card. One has a silver snowflake and the other has a night of navy snowflake. These cards came together very quickly and do not require extra postage to mail.

Crumb Cake with Snowflakes

Another snowflake card with the same basic layout as my previous post. I changes it up a little and decided to see what the card would look like with a background of crumb cake card stock.

Winter Ensemble

Another post today since I'm still trying to catch up on the HYCCT challenges. The challenge was to create a card using products, images, sentiments, or techniques that begin with the letters P, I, N and K. The card had to contain the following four required elements: at least one thing beginning with P, one thing beginning with I, one thing beginning with N, and one thing beginning with K.

My four elements are:

Thanks Snow Much!

I needed to make some thank you cards and since they weren't being mailed I decided to make them 3" x 3". I have seen these snowmen on several blogs and thought they would be cute on the small note card. I have to apologize for the picture quality of the card. I wouldn't normally post something that was a little blurry but the card was so cute I had to post it. The base card is a piece of real red card stock cut 3" x 6" and folded in half to create the 3"x3" card. I cut whisper white card stock 3" x 2" and tore it to create the snow drifts and attached them to the bottom of the base card and added icicle stickles.

To create snowman I used the following:

Body: 1", 1 3/8" and 1 3/4" circles of whisper white card stock with the edges sponged in bashful blue ink

Hat: 3/4" x 1" and 1/4" x 1 1/4" pieced of black card stock; leaves punched from the 2-Step Bird Punch with mellow moss card stock, berry punched using largest hole on the Crop-a-Dile and real red card stock

Eyes and Buttons: largest hole on the Crop-a-Dile and black card stock

Mouth: smallest hole on the Crop-a-Dile and black card stock

Nose: scrap of pumpkin pie card stock

Arms: Snowflake Punch and chocolate chip card stock

Scarf: red gingham ribbon

Assemble the hat with tombow glue add the leaves and berry using tombow glue and attach to the 1" circle with tombow glue. Add eyes, nose and mouth of snowman to the 1" circle with tombow glue and attach to the 1 3/8" circle with a dimensional. Attach the arms to the underside of the 1 3/8" circle with tombow glue and attach to the 1 3/4" circle using dimensionals. Add the buttons with tombow glue and adhere ribbon with a mini glue dot. Mount snowman to card base with adhesive. I used tombow glue since the snowman is dimensional and I wanted to make sure it was adhered well.

Lets Go Sledding

This card wasn't as hard to create as I originally thought it would be. The trees were stamped on a piece of whisper white card stock (3" x 4") using black ink and then stamped on a piece of printer paper to create a mask to cover the bottom half of the window. A 1" circle was punched out of the sticky section of a post it note to create a mask for the moon. Using not quite navy and night of navy ink the top portion of the window was brayered over the stamped tree images and the masked moon. The children were stamped to the bottom section of the panel in going gray ink and then stamped in sahara sand ink onto the smooth side of a stamp-a-ma-jig panel and applied to the panel to create a shadow. The moon was sponged with so saffron, crushed curry and more mustard ink. The falling snow was added using a white gel pen. The stamped panel was then cut into 1 1/2" x 2" sections and adhered to soft suede card stock (3 3/8" x 4 3/8") to create the window. This panel was added to another piece of whisper white card stock (3 5/8" x 4 5/8"). The window sill section is a piece of soft suede card stock (5/8" x 3 5/8") that was embossed using distressed stripes embossing folder. The sentiment was stamped on whisper white card stock (3/8" x 2 7/8") with not quite navy ink and attached to the window sill section. A piece of not quite navy DSP (4" x 5 1/4") was attached to whisper white card stock (4 1/8" x 5 3/8") and then adhered to a not quite navy card stock card base (4 1/4" x 5 1/2"). The stamped window panel was adhered to the card base and stickles were added to highlight the snow to complete the card.

Silver Trees

This is another simple yet elegant card. The trees and sentiment were stamped on whisper white card stock (3" x 4 1/4") with versa mark ink and embossed with silver embossing powder and adhered to brushed silver card stock (3 1/4" x 4 1/2"). A piece of whisper white card stock (4" x 5 1/4") was embossed with the swirls embossing folder, misted with frost white shimmer mist and mounted to a piece of brushed silver card stock (4 1/8" x 5 3/8") and the ribbon was added around this panel and mounted to the whisper white card base (4 1/4" x 5 1/2"). The stamped panel was mounted to the swirled panel with dimensionals. The "pearls" on the trees were added using white pearl dimensional paint. I really like how this turned out. This card has a real WOW factor to it but was very easy to create.

Wintery Scene

The inspiration for this card came from here. I kept my card simpler since I will be mailing these and didn't want the added layers. The images were stamped on real red card stock (3" x 4") with versa mark ink and embossed with white embossing powder. I stamped the snowflakes and trees again in real red which gives depth and shadows and then cleaned the red ink off of the embossed images with a tissue. Torn strips of white card stock were added on the real red layer to create snow drifts. The stamped image was mounted to black card stock (3 1/8" x 4 1/8") and then adhered with dimensionals to the white card base (4 1/4" x 5 1/2") that was embossed with the vintage wallpaper embossing folder. Icicle stickles were added to the snowdrifts to give the card a little sparkle.

Snowflakes and Crumb Cake

I'm not sure why but, I noticed that I've been using more crumb cake card stock this year when making my Christmas cards. Normally I use very vanilla with crumb cake but I wanted to stamp the snowflakes using white craft ink and really liked the crisp look of the white card stock. The snowflakes were stamped on crumb cake card stock (3 1/2" x 4 3/4") with white craft ink, once the craft ink was dry the snowflake piece was spritzed with champagne shimmer mist and layered onto whisper white card stock (3 3/4" X 5") and then the white taffeta ribbon was added around the stamped layer and then adhered to the crumb cake card stock base (4 1/4" x 5 1/2"). A white snowflake from felt flurries has a half pearl adhered with mini glue dots that was then attached to the ribbon knot with mini glue dots. A very clean and simple card.

A Snowman Roasting Marshmallows?

This scenic image stamp from Darcie's was stamped on whisper white card stock (4 1/8" x 5 3/8") using basic brown ink. It is hard to see in the picture but all of the images were colored with Atyou Spica color glitter pens and the snowman and snow drifts were highlighted with an Atyou Spica clear glitter pen. This card is very sparkly but not overdone. White flock was added to the bunny, hats and marshmallow with a two-way glue pen. The stamped layer was adhered to a marina mist card stock base (4 1/4" x 5 1/2").
