Scary Halloween Tree

Happy Halloween!  I don't make many Halloween cards but I really liked this paper by DCWV called Bewitched.  There are several images that don't need much added to create a card and this tree was one of them.  I created the spider web from black card stock and an EK Success Spider Web Border Punch and then spritzed the border with frost white shimmer mist.  The spider was stamped with versa mark ink, embossed with black embossing powder, cut out and adhered to the card front using a dimensional.

Supplies Used:
Stamps:  From the Crypt
Paper:  Black, Eggplant Envy, DCWV Bewitched Mat Pack
Ink:  Versa Mark
Accessories:  EK Success Spider Web Border Punch, Silver Cord, Black Embossing Powder, Frost White Shimmer Mist, Dimensionals

Sparkling Notes

HYCCT1324 - Keep It Under Wraps - Challenge: Make a decorated (altered) notepad of any kind that can be used by the patients to jot notes, keep address of new friends, journal of their journey, etc. Since this is Breast Cancer Awareness month, please put at least a spot of pink on it.

I didn't do much altering to this notepad.  Since the cover was already a sparkly pink, I added the foam letters (adhered with crystal effects) and the various pieces of ribbon.

Supplies Used:
Accessories:  $1 Spot Notepad (Darice), Foam Letters, Various Ribbons, Crystal Effects

Bambi for the Baby

Supplies Used:
Stamps:  Forest Friends, Best Yet

HYCCT1321 - The King of Rock 'n Roll - Challenge:  Be inspired in some way by Elvis and turn it into a card. You could use an image of Elvis or the idea of his sequined costumes or even the words or title of one of his many songs to inspire you.

My inspiration for this card were the songs "All Shook Up" and "Blue Christmas".

Supplies Used:
Stamps:  Patterned Pines

Beach Time

HYCCT1319 - Scene of Serenity - Challenge:  Create a project with a scene. You can use stamped images, die cut images, free hand sketching or painting.

I decided that I needed to watercolor this image.  I don't often watercolor so this was outside of my comfort zone.  I stamped the image onto watercolor paper using black versafine ink and then used watercolor crayons and an aqua painter.  I need more practice with watercoloring but I enjoyed creating this card.

Supplies Used:
Stamps:  Summer by the Sea, Canvas, Sanded
Paper:  Watercolor, Black, Marina Mist, Pacific Point
Ink:  Versafine Black, Pacific Point, Marina Mist
Accessories:  Black Eyelets, Crop-a-dile, Watercolor Crayons, Aqua Painter

Fun Rain Boots

HYCCT1318 - Put Your Brave Boots On - Challenge:  Create a card that shows boots or shoes of some kind.

For this card I used a black marker and inked the edge of the boot image and stamped it onto my designer paper (twice) and then cut the images out.  For the rain puddle I mixed some crystal effects with bashful blue reinker and used a toothpick to put it exactly where I needed on the circle.

Supplies Used:
Stamps:  Bootiful Occasions
Paper:  Whisper White, So Saffron, Sarah DSP
Ink:  Black, Bashful Blue
Accessories:  Cloudy Day Embossing Folder, Circle Nestabilities Dies, Crystal Effects, Dimensionals

Tall Vines

HYCCT1317 - Stand Tall - Challenge:  Make a tall/skinny card.

This card measures 3 1/2" x 6" and will fit into a regular business size envelope.  This card was created using some old SU rub-ons.  This is another card that can be completed in about 10 minutes.  Since the vine image is approximately 12" long I was able to make 2 cards.

Supplies Used:
Paper:  Whisper White, Black
Accessories:  Love & Happiness Rub Ons, Oval Punch, Scallop Oval Punch, Rhinestones, Dimensionals

Criss Cross Pocket

HYCCT1316 - Pocket Full of Hope - Challenge:  Create a pocket card, or a card with a pocket on it.
  • Bonus 1: To fill the pocket with hope, add a star or stars OR a heart or hearts.
  • Bonus 2: Make it orange (leukemia) or pink (breast cancer and our traditional color for HYCCT).

  • To create this pocket card I followed this tutorial from Splitcoaststampers.  I didn't use any stars or hearts but I did use both orange and pink.  I have had this DSP for years now and I was so glad to find some use for it with this challenge.

    Supplies Used:
Stamps:  Punched Posies, Because I Care, Swirls & Curls Verses

    Furry Friends

HYCCT1315B - Warm & Furry Fuzzies - Challenge:  This is the KIDS CHALLENGE and for everyone young at heart.  The thought behind this challenge is to create a card (or tag) with a critter on the cover that is fur covered (warm and furry to cuddle), any animal you please.

I didn't think I had any stamp sets with a furry critter and then I remembered this set that I won from last years HYCCT prizes from Crafter's Companion.  The image matched perfectly for this challenge.

    Supplies Used:
Stamps:  Strawberry Kisses - Rubber Stamp Set - Babe
Paper:  Very Vanilla, Bashful Blue, Delicate Dots DSP
Ink:  Black, So Saffron, Bashful Blue, Real Red, Creamy Caramel, Sahara Sand
Accessories:  Star Rhinestones, Crystal Effects, Sponge Dauber

    Bursting Blossom

HYCCT1315A - Bursting with Hope - Challenge: Create a card using a star burst design.  Your star burst should be created from either card stock or patterned paper, and NOT be a stamped image.

This is the second star burst designed card I have created for the Hope You Can Cling To Challenges.  You can view my other card here.  For this card I decided to have the rays of the star burst off center and chose to create a dimensional flower as my focal point.

    Supplies Used:
Paper:  Very Vanilla, Gumball Green, Midnight Muse, Summer Starfruit, Print Poetry Stack
    Ink:  Crumb Cake
Accessories:  Midnight Muse Stitched Ribbon, Paper Doily, Scallop Circle Punch, 2-Step Bird Punch, Scallop Border Punch, Rhinestone Brad, Fancy Fan Embossing Folder, Mini Glue Dots

    Blingtastic!

HYCCT1314 - Blingtastic - Challenge:  Create a card that is totally Blingtastic. Use glitter and rhinestones on your card.

Do you think there is enough "bling" on this card?  The challenge was glitter and rhinestones and maybe I went a little overboard.  I saw this lovely card created by Anne Schach and used the same stamp set and layout but changed the colors and sentiment.  Thanks Anne for the inspiration.

    Supplies Used:
    Stamps:  Lacy & Lovely
Paper:  Whisper White, Rose Red, DCWV Glitter Stack
Ink:  Rose Red, Regal Rose, Pink Pirouette

    Washi Thanks

HYCCT1313 - Sticking by Your Side - Challenge: Create a card with a Washi Tape background.

    Flower Box Garden

HYCCT1312 - The Colors of October - Challenge: In honor of October make a card featuring pink, green and yellow with a touch of something shimmery or opal looking.

This is a CASE of a card created by Loll Thompson.  I don't own the flower box die cut so I created my own.  I started with a piece of naturals white card stock measuring 1" x 2 1/2" and glued a 1/4" x 2 5/8" strip along the top edge and cut the ends at a slight angle.  To finish the top of the flower box I added another strip measuring 1/4" x 2 3/4" glued over the other strip.  I scored a line along the bottom and added crumb cake ink to all the edges.  To ensure a complete leaf image along the top of the flower box I placed the box on a scrap piece of paper over a foam pad and pressed the inked image firmly along the top edge.

    Supplies Used:
Stamps:  Silhouette Sentiments, Pocket Silhouettes, Bloomin' Marvelous
Paper:  Naturals White, Whisper White, Old Olive
Ink:  Old Olive, Crumb Cake, Daffodil Delight, Regal Rose
Accessories:  Stamp-a-ma-jig, Dew Drops, Crystal Effects

    Daffodil Delight Blossom

HYCCT1311 - Peace and Quiet - Challenge: Make a card that's full of peace and quiet. NO WORDS on the front. Let your image(s) do the talking and get your message across.

Since no words could be used on the card front I went with a strong, bold image and used the ornate blossom as my focal point.  I stamped the image using pear pizzazz on my main panel and then stamped a second time on scrap card stock with daffodil delight and fussy cut the center blossom.  It is difficult to see in the photo but the center blossom was spritzed with frost white shimmer mist just to give a little bit of sparkle.

    Supplies Used:
    Stamps:  Ornate Blossom
Paper:  Whisper White, Daffodil Delight, Pear Pizzazz, Greenhouse Gala DSP
    Ink:  Daffodil Delight, Pear Pizzazz

Paper:  Whisper White, Melon Mambo, Raspberry Tart DSP
    Ink:  Versa Mark

    Birthday Bot

HYCCT1309 - Strength of Steel - Challenge: Show off your metal.  Feel free to use aluminum foil in your creation, recycled soda cans, home improvement flashing, or use a metal embellishment.

When I saw that the challenge was metal I knew I had to use the Lots of Bots stamp set.  Since I don't own the gears punch I created my own using circle punches and the boho blossom punch and then trimmed the edges.  I did the same thing with a larger scallop punch.  The effect was exactly what I was going for.

    Supplies Used:
    Stamps:  Lots of Bots
Paper:  Whisper White, Tempting Turquoise, Real Red, Silver Glimmer, DCWV Metallics
Ink:  Black, Tempting Turquoise, Real Red, Smoky Slate
Accessories:  Circle Nestabilities Die, Circle Punches, Boho Blossoms Punch, Scallop Circle Punch, Spots & Dots Embossing Folder, Silver Hodgepodge Hardware, Dimensionals

    Morning Coffee

HYCCT1308 - It's a Cover Up - Challenge: Make a card with a hidden message (or image) which you can uncover by opening a flap or swinging a hinged tag or panel.

I wasn't sure what to do for this card so I opted to create a "joy fold" card.  There is a tutorial on Splitcoaststampers with various options for card sizes.  The coffee mug circle image is what holds the flap closed.  I stamped one line of the phrase (a morning without coffee) on the card front and the other half (is like sleep) can be read by opening the flap.

    Supplies Used:
    Stamps:  Morning Cup
Paper:  Very Vanilla, Crumb Cake, Early Espresso, Baja Breeze, Elegant Soiree DSP
Ink:  Black, Crumb Cake, Early Espresso, Baja Breeze
Accessories:  Baja Breeze Seam Binding Ribbon, 1 1/4" and 1 3/8" Circle Punches, Heart to Heart Punch, Paper Piercing Template & Paper Piercing Tool, Dimensionals

    Embossed Leaves

HYCCT1307 - Peaceful Leaves - Challenge: Use a leaf or leaves on your card.

For this challenge I decided instead of stamping leaf images I would use the autumn accents bigz die and emboss the leaves using various embossing folders.  Once I had the leaves embossed I applied the ink using the direct to paper technique and then distressed all of the leaves before layering them.

    Supplies Used:
    Stamps:  Simple Sayings II
Paper:  Very Vanilla, Crumb Cake, Really Rust, More Mustard, Close to Cocoa, Old Olive
Ink:  Really Rust, More Mustard, Close to Cocoa, Old Olive
Accessories:  Autumn Accents Bigz Die, Circle Nestabilities Dies, Various Embossing Folders, Corduroy Button, Gold Satin Ribbon, Mini Glue Dots

    Oh, Hello!

HYCCT1306 - Many Colors of Cancer - Challenge:  Many of us have a loved one or friend that has been affected by cancer. Choose one of the colors of cancer from THIS Site  and use it on your project. Feel free to use more than one color combo on your project, if you have more than one person going through a cancer battle. In your description, let us know why you choose the color(s) you did.

I chose the colors dark blue (colon cancer) for my dad, purple (pancreatic cancer) for my mom and white (lung cancer) for my sister.  Sadly, they have all passed and I miss them all very much.  There are so many other people in my life that are currently fighting various forms of cancer and I decided that my DSP should have many colors to represent them as well.

    I'm Finally Back...

First, I must apologize for not posting since August.  I have made cards for friends and family but never got the chance to post anything for September.  But for the next month you will be seeing regular posts.

If you follow my blog, then you know that in October I participate in the Hope You Can Cling To (HYCCT) challenges on Splitcoaststampers.  Every day during the month a different challenge is posted to create a card to be sent to the MD Anderson Cancer Center in Texas.  I usually send all my cards in one box upon completion of all the challenges but some people break it up and send them out periodically throughout the month.  It is a great cause and I truly enjoy trying to come up with different cards for all of the challenges.  So without further ado these are the first 3 cards I created for day 1 (on October 1st there are 3 challenges to complete).

HYCCT1301A - Inner Strength - Make a card with inner strength - meaning that a dimensional image on the inside of your card can be seen through an opening in the front of your card.

It is the color of encouragement and determination. Challenge:  Create a card that shares courage and strength with either the color red or orange or a mixture of both.
